40 Percent of Seniors Are Either Somewhat Confused or Very Confused When Picking Their Medicare PlansWith the 2013 open enrollment period in full swing, seniors are reminded that they can review and compare their Medicare coverage options, including Part D drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans. When asked about their views on the number of Medicare private plan choices available, the survey found that 40 percent of seniors said that it is confusing and difficult to pick the best plan.

This was due mostly to having too many plans available to choose from. While the exact number of plans available in each county and state varies, all people on Medicare have, on average, had at least 25 Part D drug plans and 20 Medicare Advantage plans to choose from in 2012.
